A late afternoon meeting time would lend itself better to my schedule and possibly to the schedules of others. A 3:00pm/4:00pm meeting time would fall at a time when those with kids could still attend and still make it to pick up the kids at daycare. For me that time is kind of the "dead time" of the day, just before heading home and before the evening meal.
Contacting the local schools/colleges sounds like a great idea. It could generate a renewed interest in the group and allow members to share their knowledge with the "next generation" whil bolstering the membership as these students move into the professional world.
While it is true that more and more online resources are available, a face to face meeting with vendors and/or other users offers a much better give and take forum for questions.
